In a historic victory, the National People’s Power (NPP) leader, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, has been elected as the 9th President of Sri Lanka, according to information released by the Election Commissioner’s office. While the official announcement is yet to be made by the Election Commission, the results mark a turning point in the countryโs political landscape.
The NPP General Secretary, Tilvin Silva, addressed the media shortly after the news broke, sharing his thoughts on the momentous occasion.
“We have won the battle at this moment,” said Silva. “First of all, we would like to thank everyone involved in this achievement. This victory is a special victory. So far, the power that was in the hands of the elite class in our country has now been handed to a common man. The people have given us this mandate, and we will definitely fulfill the expectations they have for us.”
